Communication in Consulting and Personal Branding

Communication in Consulting Career

We have been told the importance of communication in consulting career which we can clearly see in this pie chart. As a consultant, we spend most of the time interacting with clients and communicating with them. So for a successful consultant, this is the most important aspect.

Tools in Consulting:
The most important tools in consulting career can be seen here. They are being used at multiple stages like proposals, reports, executing briefing, project reports, and work papers.

Presentation: We have been told about the business presentation format in a typical consulting career. Here we can see the Minto Pyramid for the same.

MESE Principle:
It is a grouping principle for separating a set of items into subsets that are mutually exclusive (ME) and collectively exhaustive (CE). It was developed in the late 1960s by Barbara Minto at McKinsey & Company and underlies her Minto Pyramid Principle, and is based on ideas going back as far as Aristotle.

Strategy consultants use MECE problem structuring to break down client problems into logical, clean buckets of analysis that they can then hand out as workstreams to consulting staff on the project. Given their extensive use of MECE in breaking down client problems, they also expect to see interview candidates demonstrate strong MECE problem structuring during case interviews.

 Personal Branding

Personal branding is a conscious effort in creating a positive image in the minds of the public and benefit from it.

The process of personal branding involves finding your uniqueness, building a reputation on the things you want to be known for, and then allowing yourself to be known for them. Ultimately, the goal is to create something that conveys a message and that can be monetized.

Maha Mandi - Hyderabadi Haleem

Maha Mandi is the socio-marketing event organized annually by NITIE. Where the students of the NITIE go to the streets of Mumbai and sell products.

This is where you meet the actual consumers and understand a sale from the perspective of these consumers. Only if you know understand the last chain in the supply chain you will be able to do business effectively and Mana Mandi gives students an opportunity here.

Vocal For Local: We would like to make this dish popular across the country. Something we are learning in our business communication course. The slogan of the course is "Socho Becho Seekho".

Haleem: Haleem is a stew composed of meat, lentils, and pounded wheat made into a thick paste.
  • It is particularly consumed in the Islamic month of Ramadan during Iftar (the evening meal that breaks the day-long fast) as it provides instant energy and is high in calories. This has made the dish synonymous with Ramadan.
  • In recognition of its cultural significance and popularity, in 2010 it was granted Geographical Indication status (GIS) by the Indian GIS registry office, making it the first non-vegetarian dish in India to receive this status.

History: It is originally an Arabic dish and was introduced to the Hyderabad State by the Chaush people during the rule of the Nizams (the former rulers of Hyderabad State). Local traditional spices helped a unique Hyderabadi haleem evolve, which became popular among the native Hyderabadis by the 19th century.

Ingredients: Meat, pounded wheat, ghee, milk, lentils, ginger and garlic paste, turmeric, red chili pepper spices such as cumin seeds, caraway seeds (shah zeera), cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, black pepper, saffron, jaggery, natural gum, allspice (kabab cheeni), and dry fruits such as pistachio, cashew, fig and almond. It is served hot topped with a ghee-based gravy, pieces of lime, chopped coriander, sliced boiled egg and fried onions as garnish.

Nutritious Benefits:
  • Hyderabadi haleem is a high-calorie dish which gives instant energy.
  • It also contains dry fruits rich in anti-oxidants.
  • A new low-cholesterol variety by using emu meat, rich in minerals, phosphorus, and vitamins, was introduced in 2013

Cultural Significance: People from all cultures and religions come together in harmony and enjoy the occasion with this delicious dish. That's why we call it "a dish without boundaries"
